Many people have tried to define poetry. It is more than just words that rhyme or lines in verses. Often good poetry says something meaningful in just a few words. It is concentrated language.
If you read a few lines of poetry, it often sticks in your mind. That's why it works well in places where people have to read quickly, such as on posters at train stations. Poets usually have strong feelings about the subject of their poem. They often want the people who read their poems to feel the emotion too. Here's how some famous poets define poetry:

What is an EPIC POEM?An epic is a long narrative poem composed in a serious,
elevated style that relates to the exploits of a hero, or semi devine figure from myth, legend or history. Epics gain their sense of importnace from the fact that the fate of a tribe, nation or ther himan race depends on the success of the ventral hero. In recent times the term has come to include epic novels and films as well. What is a LYRIC POEM?
A lyric is any poem that is NOT a narrative and expresses thoughts and feelings through a single persona.
Sonnets, odes, elegies, dramatic monologues and most free verse belong to the lyric form.
